 15 year old girl raped in Daikundi women affairs office

According to human rights department officials in Daikundi province of Afghanistan, a 15 year old teenager girl was raped in provincial women affairs department on Monday night and at least six security guards of the same office have been arrested in connection to the incident, The Voice of America (VOA) reported.

Local authorities are saying that the health condition of the teenager girl is not good and it is yet not clear if the girl was gang raped or not.

The authorities furhter added that the girl will be taken to capital if she does not recover.

Provincial security chief Razaq Elkhani said the incident is not clear so far but all the employees of the provincial women affairs department are the main suspects and are under the investigation.

In the meantime Jawad Dadgar chief of the provincial independent human rights commission said the main suspect along with the five others have been arrested by Afghan security forces.

The 15 year old teenager girl who does not have any relatives was reportedly taken from the child shelter to women affairs department to keep her in women shelter house. The victim whose identity has not been disclosed is the resident of Sang Takht district.

Provincial women affairs department chief Habiba Shujaye said investigations regarding the incident has been started and urged the concerned departments to strictly follow the incident.

Afghan police forces on Wednesday arrested all male workers of women affairs department and the office was also closed.

The incident takes place amid concerns regarding growing suicide attempts by women in Daikundu province where at least four women committed suicide two weeks in this province due to domestic violence, forced marraige and poverty.
