HERAT CITY - An Iranian citizen was found shot dead on a busy highway in western Herat province near the Iranian border, an official said on Tuesday.

The body was found dumped on the Herat-Islam Qala highway near a hotel in the Zinda Jan district, provincial deputy police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Hameed told Pajhwok Afghan News. Identity of the deceased remained unknown, he said.

Hundreds of Iranian people travel between Iran and Herat for business on a daily basis.

The zonal hospital spokesman, Dr, Mohammad Sherzai, said they had been delivered the body by police. The man had been shot twice, he said.
