With United States depending on Pakistan for its dignified exit from Afghanistan, the present geo-political situation can turn into an opportunity for Pakistan only if we are able to overcome our internal challenges, said General Secretary for Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed.

He expressed these views in his speech on Revisiting Pakistans Nuclear Policy on Terrorism in the ongoing second session of Youth Parliament Pakistan 2009-2010. In a comprehensive analysis of present geo-political situation in the region, he said that without Pakistans active role, this area could not be stabilised.

Defending the decision of joining war on terrorism by the past government, he said that after 9/11, India wanted to isolate Pakistan diplomatically and was stressing international community to deal with Pakistan the same way as it was dealing Afghanistan. With other friendly countries including China and Saudi Arabia also joining hands with US in this war, Pakistan had no choice but to become part of that war.

Predicting a bright future for the country, Mushahid said that recent political and economic changes in the region are highly in the favour of Pakistan. Global balance of power is shifting towards Asia with the key country leading this shift is our friendly country China, United States is ready to have dialogue with Afghanistan and Pakistan is a key state in the great game of natural resources that is going dominate world politics in future, he pointed out.

To draw maximum benefit from the emerging regional situation, he said that Pakistan should adopt effective counter terrorism strategy. Improved coordination between civil and military leadership and efficient intelligence network should make a vital part of this strategy, he said.

Terming it a manufacturing defect in the political system, he regretted that it is almost impossible for a common man to join mainstream politics in our country. He said that Muslim world is suffering from a serious problem of direction and leadership. No one can become Barack Hussain Obama in Muslim countries mainly due to the prevalent gap between masses and ruling elite.

Mushahid said that majority of youthful population of the world belongs to Muslim countries with 60 per cent of population in Muslim world is below 35. We have spirit and resilience but effective policies are required to utilize these opportunities to their fullest.

After US exit, he said that things would improve in Afghanistan as stakes of many countries such as China, Japan and Iran are now involved in this region. He said that United States is spending 4 billion dollars on Iraq and Afghanistan per week and is not in a position to start a new front.
